HAPPY BIRTHDAY to pirl
Thanks to Brigitte, Cindy and Jen! Thanks for all the pretty photos as well.
I get the day off because it's too darn hot, right?
Oh YAY you're here!!!
I vote for the day off.
If the weather was lovely I'd have been outside slaving away so this works out perfectly for staying cool indoors.
Happy Birthday.
The hydrangea you gave me is finally blooming! The day lilies are blooming as well in the garden across the street where I see them every time I look out my window or step out the front door.
OHHHHHH pirl I meant to say YOUR garden wishes and not OUR..will correct it immediately.sorry ! ..blushing.
Glad to hear the daylilies are blooming as well as the hydrangea, Cat!
Brigitte - no need to blush! Good wishes are always welcome.
A plant without holes, Colleen! Even the tomatoes/cukes/beans/broccoli have been attacked by the deer...and the hosta as well as the daylilies, which left the lettuce for the bunnies and any remaining hostas for the slugs. They all eat well here. Thanks for the good wishes.
Orchids, too! You're good with plants, PV.
Thanks, WC. That's a beautifully colored glad.
It's been a very festive day here!
Thanks, Robindog! What a lovely iris that is.
Thanks, Pixie. The lily is almost as lovely as you are! We do love Portland! Charlie wasn't in the mood for kisses now that he's 4 years old so I had to exist on cupcakes, a new dahlia, flowers from my son, Godiva and cast iron from Jack and the balloons from my favorite person on the left coast.
Holly and Ric - thanks for the greetings. Such pretty red roses. Since the deer ate mine after they finally bloomed following the attack by the Japanese beetles, it's nice to see any roses!
How sweet of you, Ronnie. I felt like a star today with all the attention! Thanks for your good wishes.
Such a pretty double lily, Allison! What's the name? Thanks for the good wishes.
Just put in my order with B & D for a double lily, Queen Sofia, and quite a few others for 2011.
sweetheart... kind of wimpy this year... hopefully next year it will be a bit stronger http://brecks.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_75669
Far too many lilies ended up looking like Star Gazers this year. While I love them I think the heat wasn't a friend to the lilies.
I think one of the ones I bought at HD last year has the virus .. I dug it up and threw it out
Is there a virus affecting lilies too? Ugh , it seems like every plant has something we have to worry about.
Stunning is amazing! Very classy!
Happy Birthday Pirl. I hope that you don't have the lily leaf beetles there.
that stunning is very nice
Yes, Colleen, lily virus does exist. With all the problems we all face it's a testament to our determination that we continue to garden regardless of the bugs, the viruses, the weather, etc.
Thanks, Phoebe and Allison. Stunning just doesn't take a bad photo and it bloomed for 21 days!
We don't have the lily beetle...yet. It's still across Long Island Sound and I hope it doesn't hike a ride over here.
Queen of Spades is fabulous, Celeste! It seems to be a pinker one compared to Salmon Star, which I love. I bought mine from Dutch Gardens, which has changed hands now and supposedly is owned by Gurney's - bad news (from all I've heard). I did get Forever Susan lilies from Dutch Gardens in April and it bloomed beautifully for me.
Here's Salmon Star:
So beautiful pirl!
Is that Conca d'Or, Pat? What a beautiful fragrance it has. Thanks for the good wishes.
Yes it is. They seemed to come and go so quickly this year due to the very warm temps I guess. They fill the air with lovely scent when they are here.
Darn Darn Darn!!! I wouldn't have wanted to be late wishing YOU a Happy Birthday, Arlene! You have been a true shining light here on DG for me and so many others, with your advice, your encouragement and your kindness! I am so enjoying reading a thread with a lot of posts from you!! I love the festive look of your balloon bouquet and it brings a smile to my face just knowing that you are probably still enjoying them.
Wishing you so many good things! And now that you're here, please stay awhile!
Louise
Thanks, Pat. It's always comforting to know I can name a lily. I first saw that one in the garden of a Southold friend. His lilies are 10 and 12' tall - I was insanely jealous!
What a lovely message, Louise! Thank you. Love the soft coloring on that daylily. It reminds me a bit of one of my own.
Had to smile at your comment about me being encouraging. Back in March someone on the Hydrangea Forum had to cut back his hydrangeas and wanted to know if the cuttings would root. I told him he had nothing to lose by trying and that I was facing the same problem. I put my cuttings in potting soil and now have another dozen hydrangeas! Another person had posted telling him it was the wrong time, etc. but I was happy to be encouraging and hope he got something for his effort.
I'll be back to visit!
Name of that DL Louise? Looks like one of mine called 'Fruit Loops"
