Show us your Oleanders

I think I speak for all we Oleander lovers everywhere in saying a Huge Thank You to everyone including ilovejesus99,who helped to get this forum up and going and in particular to Melody and the Dave's Garden Admin team.Thank you for listening to our request.
I will kick start this forum with some pictures of my Oleanders taken in the last few months. I live in Australia so our seasons here in the Southern Hemisphere are the opposite way around. We are currently in Winter so no Oleanders blooming for me at this time.
So lets all get behind this forum by sharing pictures and information so we may all help each other to learn and expand our knowledge on this wonderful hardy species and it's many beautiful cultivars

This is sold here in Australia under the name of 'Vanilla Cream',I suspect though that it is actually the double yellow 'Matilde Ferrier'. It doesn't seem to be as free(long) blooming as many others.I have only had mine for a year so I guess I really won't know until it's next flowering season which should start in late Sept or October. It does have really beautiful blooms though.

Here it is again...I would guess it is probably quite common everywhere but that shouldn't deflect from it's beauty

This is another favourite Splendens,common everywhere. There is also a variegated form of it readily available here.

I don't know the name of this beauty. I bought 2 very small potted cuttings at a garage sale some years back. Is very near the same colour as Splendens and is also fragrant and free blooming

Are the seeds directly behind the flower. I have never seen seed on an oleander.

but i would love to try the yellow--very pretty--it is smaller is that correct?

Does anyone have an ID for this one? I call it my "one of my Katrina Survivors" since I sampled from a dislodged & damaged mother plant that grew near the area where the infamous levee broke in NO....a few months after Kat.....I'd like to know its real ID.

brical,.....do you think this is related to yr opening post's pictured example? The petals of my example aren't whorled ( is that the correct term?)...like yours...but they seem similar ..

I have one that looks like the one you call Punctatum. I don't know who it is as it was a gift from my mother. I love its fresh, pink-crystal blooms. It's also a nice size oleander, not huge like some but bigger than the dwarf varieties.

Linda. I am not sure on the size of the yellows,but they would probably be within the intermediate range,I wouldn't expect them to reach the proportions that splendens can reach. I have seen some gigantic old spendens.
WTG,the colour does look similar but I am no expert,there are so many cultivars out there it could be very hard to identify... Have you looked at any of the Turners hybrids?
Your Oleanders are beautiful ...picture perfect splendens! Your beautiful unknown yellow looks like the cultivar Sorrento?

This is one I collected as cuttings a couple of years ago. It was growing in a yard I frequently drove by.Very neglected and only bloomed for a short time each year..about a month or so in late spring early summer..I presumed by this that it would always be a once only bloomer,but it has proved me wrong and it flowered well last season for many months.Is in the most exquisite shade of pure soft pink and I really like it's flower form. I have not been able to find out it's correct name so now refer to it after the street name where I found it.

It has even produced a few seed pods which I am hoping will ripen within the next few weeks.

Wow you made it over here too! Do you have a double yellow oleander? I'm collection doubles. They hold up far better in Cave Creek thank all the plumeria I had. I just love them.
Have you ever rooted any reds?

Mickey, I looked for years for a particular creamy yellow double that had grown in a hedge at a house we lived in years ago. It smelled of that lovely powder scent. I have never been able to find it. I think the only ones we have are singles. I rooted some oleanders about the time we lived in that house but I don't think they were red, double pinks if I recall correctly. I've only tried once since then. Unsuccessfully. The ones that worked were just stuck in a bucket of water. Oh wait, I think I do have a double. It's a smallish bush, one that I ordered that was supposed to be fragrant, but be d*mned if I can smell it. You're welcome to cuttings if you want.

Do you remember it's name or were you got it from? I bought a yellow this year and someone else gave me one and some cuttings.

Were is Willis Texas? What larger city is it near. I may have to make a stop there to visit some oleander.

About 55-60 miles N. of Houston on I-45

The yellows I've posted above each have the "powder" fragrance although not as strong as the Splendens.

I also have a double white...which is fragrant too!

I am going to take a cutting from a normal oleander and place it in my EZ Cloner and see if it roots. If it does, I am going to be begging for some cutting. I will pay postage. I have searched the internet and cannot find them for sale. I can find sites showing all the beautiful new colors but no sellers. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

I did try lantanas in the EZ Cloner and they root massive roots in 5 days.
