Rooting Rose of Sharon!

Central Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

I want to give rooting Rose of Sharon a try. My neighbor has a nice purple one that blooms profusely. Any tips or tricks that anyone can recommend? It's been really hot here and I'm afraid my first attempt failed.

Again, google.com provided a site that gives step-by-step instructions:

I understand that they will route in a jar of water in a sunny window as well. The only downfall to that, is that roots grown in water are different than the roots the plants grow in soil. So when you actually plant it, the water roots are delicate and not suited for soil. The plant growth halts and has to put out new roots. Just something to consider.

I tried rooting some in my greenhouse - they just got slimy and died - must have been either the wrong time or too hot or too damp.

The leaves had dried up on all of mine. But I just noticed yesterday a fresh bud. So hopefully at least one took root.
