Today I picked up a potted Heuchera that is sitting on the ground and I discovered all this activity under there. The white maggoty things were quickly hustled underground by a crew of black ants. Anyone know what's going on? Any reason for concern? There are ants here and there in the yard, but they've never been a problem for me...
Ants and... what?
The white objects simply are the cocoons spun by the ant larvae to protect themselves while in the pupal stage; the worker ants are moving them to a safe location.
