Color Game: PURPLE!!!! Porphiry for Royalty

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

mjponies, how do you grow your var. phillipine violet? inground or potted? winter protection? Love everybody's pics

DeLand/Deleon Spring, FL(Zone 8b)

Vos, it's in the ground. Freezes back, but comes back...I mulch heavily tho...and take cuttings/save seeds just in case. Comes true from seed.
I have the regular purple, white, variegated, and am in search of the Striped bloom. Same as regular purple, but with a white stripe down the center of each petal.
If I ever get one I'm going to try cross pollinating with the variegated.....

Hi Mjsponies,

That flower is from Cochliostema odoratissimum, an unusual epiphytic plant from Central America of the Spiderwort Family (Commelinaceae) that lives in the same niche as Bromeliads.

Goth,
I just got Passiflora trifasciata not long ago. it's still growing in it's 4 in. pot. Do you grow yours in the ground or in a pot. Also how much Sun is it getting? It's sooooooooooooo gorgeous !

Gainesville, FL

I have been growing it in the ground, but I dug it up and repotted it just yesterday as a matter of fact, because even though it comes back every year, this last winter was so brutal that it really delayed it, and it came back much smaller, so I want to greenhouse it for a season or so and beef it back up. I had it in full sun out by my front gate. It always did well.

I think I'll keep mine in a pot till next spring...and take a few cuttings for backup !

Tacca "Green Isle". Last season it was new and I only got one bloom...this time I have 3. Only one is fully open. The flowers are dark purple and the 'whiskers' are extra extra long and a bright iridescent purple in the sunlight. This is hands down my FAVORITE tacca
