Photographed in the same area as the blue butterfly, dry sagebrush hills at Bannack State Park, elevation 5,780. Pics were taken 8-19-09 in case I got it wrong in the blue-butterfly post. This one was even harder to get, just as active & wary as the blue and even less inclined to land or open its wings.

Looks like a tired and worn 'Common Wood Nymph'. We had one in our garden yesterday here in Nebraska. It is a very "common" butterfly. Here is a link with pics and info...
