Has anyone propagated bougainville

Aschaffenburg, Germany

The guy in Morocco told me that they take cutting in November and put them in the soil and that they would drive out in spring. Moroccan climate is definitely different, and this may work, but I wonder if anybody successfully and easily has taken cuttings and what to be careful about or avoid....

Hi Martin,

I have three bougainvilla bushes started from cuttings abouy four years ago. My dad actually started them for me - he had them growing at his work. Make sure to take hardwood cuttings. He planted the cuttings in normal garden soil, and I transplanted them into my garden. Some had roots, and others rooted after I transferred them. I think the main thing is not too much water. Only water when the soil feels dry to the touch.

Good luck,

Thanks Elsa.

How are your MGs doing? This year I have only a few MGs in pots, since I may have to move flat or house or country again...All in the air right now. My Mom died last Saturday, and my Dad is in hospital with kidney problems. Getting older is no fun, so it seems...

Martin,

I am so sorry to hear about your mom and also your dad. You are in my prayers.

It is winter at the moment, but I can't wait to get them growing. Please post pictures when yours are flowering.

I had a very large branch break and I cut it into three pieces, put it in the holding garden, which is irrigated automatically once 3 days a week in the winter and they all three grew. They stayed green and actually flowered while rooting. But I live in Las Vegas. Very dry. If I did not keep the soil damp, they would perish.

Thanks WormsLovSharon.

Just out of curiosity I wondered about your name, do you breed worms?

Any experience? I am thinking of buying a plastic wormery from the UK to make my own compost...

I have several large tubs of red worms. I raise them for worm castings for worm compost tea. Living in Las Vegas makes it very difficult to garden so I need all the help I can get and I discovered years ago that worms and mulch are the answer. Worms aerate the soil and mulch keeps it moist and cool.

I use shredded, cross cut, paper and peat moss. I add my scraps and alfalfa pellets and a spot of molasses. I use very large Rubbermaid Tubs. My worms are very happy and yesterday I moved a large amount of red worms outside into a very large outdoor low pot. Monday, I will move them into another Tub. Their tub was getting too crowded. There is a great forum on composting and also on vericomposting. Docpipe is on both and an expert in my opinion. Good luck.

What I want is one of your UK hedge trimming ladders. It has a platform on top with rails around it. Would be perfect foer me with a balance problem. Have not been able to find it in the USA.

Hi,

I am not from the UK, but lived there for 6 years. I take it that you use normal containers for you worms...I am keen on one fro the UK which will produce "worm water", too, which may be a handy way to get cheap fertilizer.

I will check out Docpipe's threas, thanks for the hint.
