Goatsbeard - Aruncus

Cedarhome, WA(Zone 8b)

Any tips on how to best gather wild goatsbeard seed? While crossing the pass, I gathered seedheads which are both green and brown. The brown ones seem to be empty, and the green ones seem to be immature. Can I put those in a brown bag to dry? What is the optimal stage to gather seeds? These grown wild in the highway ditches and I love the look, would like to replicate it around my pond. Thanks. Deb

You must wait until they turn brown. In the meantime you can put a few organza baggies around the ripening seeds, so you won't lose the seeds if you're not able to go there everyday.

If there is no male plant in the surrounding, there will be no seed in it.
