Pipevine Caterpillars up for Adoption

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Could be about the heat, but I doubt it since we have been and are normally in triple digits heat at this time of the year. My original plant came from Florida. I always try my plants in different parts of the garden just to see how they perform.

I would love some-but I live in OKC, OK! Do you still have any? I wasn't sure about mailing caterpillars before, but I've been buying monarch caterpillars through the mail and they have been doing very well if we use overnight shopping. I would be happy to pay for it all if you are interested in giving them a good home! We've got pipevine plants but haven't attracted them yet to our area. I'd love to get them going here along with our black swallowtails, fritilaries and monarchs! If you are out for the season please keep us in mind next year! We would gladly take some off your hands annually!

Olive, my Pipevine Caterpillars are all gone now, but if I get another batch later as the weather cools off I will be glad to send you some.
I have never shipped them before, so I will have to find out how to do it, we shall see how it goes.

Can't do that Josephine....Dale said that is against USDA regulations. He said those people that sell have to obtain permits, etc. to be able to ship.

I wonder if the regulations are the same for eggs?

Oh well, it was just a thought, we will see what we can find out.

Yep, definitely against USDA regulations. This is done to keep people from throwing butterflies willy-nilly all over the country (and is a very good idea!) and muddying the waters of data of naturally occurring sightings. Robert Michael Pyle just did a great article in the current (Summer) issue of the NEWS of the Lepidopterists' Society (I'm the editor) arguing against the shipping and release of butterflies. I've been meaning to post a copy of it on my website. I'll try to get around to that soon.

Well, I guess that was not a good idea, I was just trying to be helpful.
