Hope I spelled that right. Found this while cleaning up some purple hull peas I had just shelled. Glad I found it and didn't eat it...YUCK!
Pupae
Unfortunately, there is insufficient detail visible for me to attempt an identification. If no one else takes a stab at it, you might try taking it to your county office of the University Arkansas Cooperative Extension service to see if you can get assistance there. See http://tinyurl.com/25p9gds for contact information.
Sorry - About all I can say is that assuming that this object is dorsal ('top') side up, it appears to be a pupa of a moth of some kind. If anyone else has a different opinion, please speak up.
There are a few small butterflies that use vines in the pea family, like the Gray Hairstreak. But as suunto said, it can't be a definate id in that form. Why don't you save it for a couple weeks and see if it should emerge then post the pic....since you had fresh peas it probably will.
Here is a site that has a picture of a Gray Hairstreak pupa an others.

I took the picture on table outside and wasn't quick enough getting back to collect it and it disappeared......bird snack no doubt
