Spider in Texas

Killeen, TX

What kind of spider is this? The body is about an inch and a half long. Usually in the garage or under covered patio.

This is a wolf spider (family Lycosidae); the enlarged anterior median eyes are characteristic of this family. They have excellent (for spiders) eyesight and are active hunters that do not spin capture webs. They are harmless to humans.

Decatur, GA

My gosh, its huge. Does it eat mice? I wouldn't mind one in my basement if it would eat crickets.
