Oh Pattie, you are so sweet, I can always use coneflowers since I have so many places to take care of.
But don't short yourself, if you can save me some of your extras it would be great.
Thank you very much.
Josephine.
My Coneflower Blooms are gone overnight.
josephine.. I still have some seedlings left if you need them..just let me know if you d like them...
Thanks for the laugh ladies! That picture was priceless after Linda's comment.
Josephine...if your cage isn't big enough for a raccoon, we have one with about a 12 x 12" opening you are welcome to use.
Patty....the water loss may well have been raccoons. My neighbor said they come up and swim in their swimming pool at night to get the bugs that the bats they have diving miss! Animals are entertaining for sure. They remodeled their deck last month and found three baby possums. They ran to the end of the yard...under my lower deck now I guess. We have an abundance of June bugs (cut worm in larva stage) this year and that is one of the things they eat. Possums don't carry rabies it seems so I welcome them to eat the cut worms/June bugs.
Yes, that picture is really cute, funny and right on target Sheila.

Raven, thank you very much for the offer, that is very kind of you, I don't know if I will be going to ETRU this fall, but if I go and you still have them I will be very happy to give them a home.
Hopefully we won't have this mystery thing happen again.
Josephine.
we could be mystery garden writers--there seems to always be mystery in the garden
here is my mystery
we have box turtles living in our yard -not pets- they just like living here--l believe it or not they do have their own personalities--two come to the back door and wait for us to find them and bring them fruit! the other two are shy and stay hidden
---yesterday at the door was a baby the size of a silver dollar waiting!!! just as if he came out of his shell and another turtle told him about getting fruit at the back door!!!!
last year one of the turtles got out of the yard- the only way we knew was that when we opened the FRONT door there he was waiting!
That is really cute Linda, turtles are a lot of fun.
I love turtles. :)
Josephine, I still have plenty, so I will dig some right now, and hopefully they will have stopped pouting by October. I am still mad about the sprinkler guys tearing up my "wildscape" bed. But I gotta admit, it's a lot easier to dig around out there now. LOL.
Thank you Pattie, you are very kind.
I cut that one coneflower patch back and gave them some food in hopes that they will make new growth, we shall see.
My oh My I was so hoping the mystery would be solved and the perps locked away...Alas will have to tune in another day LOLOLOLOL.. Josephine do you have any friends that are deer hunters as most all deer hunters have infra red game cameras.that are motion sensor activated ...
I'm going to get one , they are less than 100.00. It's on my remember to get one list .
Wow! one of those cameras would probably solve the mystery, unfortunately we don't have deer hunting friends and I don't think we want to spend that kind of money.
As long as the event has ended, a little mystery is good. Will keep us all guessing. I still think it was free range camels (:
C
Capture anything yet??
No, with Frank's broken arm we just haven't gotten around to it.
I cut the plants back and gave them some food so hopefully they will bloom again.
Mine are looking pretty sad with their heads in this heat, then the butterfly cats took most of the leaves off too. In a few months the beds will be all brown, so we should enjoy what we have now. When do the pins come out on his wrist, or does he even know yet?
He goes back on the 25 and they will decide then. It will be nice when he is back to normal.
I didn't know Frank is out of commission with an injury. Were you able to get most of your front yard done?
Yes, we got most of it done except the side of the garage.
I have most plants planted, but of course they are small so it doesn't look like much yet.
I am very excited about it, it is going to be neat, and not having to mow is really a big plus.
We still have a big pile of mulch on the driveway, so that needs to be used or moved.
I will put up pictures when things start growing a bit.
Look forward to it!
This thread caught my eye....sooo funny with that pic and all, but I too have had my cone blooms nipped just at the base. Since the squirrels have eaten a ton of sweet potato vine and purple and green wandering jew, I've been blaming them. Now that I read all this I think maybe racoons, but I've seen no other signs lately. No knocked over pots, etc. My blooms are in a fenced in back yard, so no deer (which is why I fanced in back there), I have all the critters....'dillos, (no digging signs), and the above. I also have foxes....maaaybe? I had some cones in a 12" tall pot, so the blooms were higher, yet neatly clipped off, just the bloom. I love the camel thought, and hate mysteries. Look forward to solving this one.
Did you ever figure out what was eating your coneflowers, Josephine?
No we haven't figured it out, but more of them have been taken from other areas, to the point that I have very few left.
I have cut the plants back and given them some compost in the hopes that they will bloom again before fall.
This never happened before so it is really strange.
