Gathering seeds from Dwarf Fairy candytuft(mixed colors)

The above plants are starting to go to seed I think. The beautiful purple/lilac/white colors have now turned to green. How do I find/collect the seeds from this plant? Should I cut it back to encourage repeat blooms or doesn't it only bloom but once? These were Ferry-Morse seeds and I really want to find more of them next year for Wintersowing.

I would let them dry for seeds... deadheading might bring another set of blooms, but it might not. so you may not want to risk it.

I don't know if I read the information about showed what the seed pod looked like but it told that there were only 2 seeds per pod, does that make sense? You'd think that each pod would have many seeds in it. For just two seeds, it's not worth all the work of finding them and getting them out! I ordered some more seed but these are from Crosman seed co. The ones I wintersowed in Jan. were Ferry-Morse..I could never find them on their website. So in 2011, we'll see if Crosman's looks anything like the FM ones! FM were $1.25 a pkt. and Crosmans' 89 cents.

At that price, it's probably more economical to buy them! There are multiple pods on each flowerhead, so more than 2 per flower... but with commercial prices so low your time may be more valuable than the collection is worth :)
Or, you could clip the dried pods and not worry about separating the seeds - I often save seeds this way since the chaff dries out in storage and doesn't seem to interfere with sowing the next season. It can actually make sowing tiny seeds a bit easier.
Keep us posted on how the Crosmans seeds do for you - that's a great price!

Found out that this plant will reseed itself and you'll have more for next year. I left one plant intentionally to see what it would do and sure enough, I'll have more new babies if they survived the winter weather and temps. Something I came across the other day is there are a lot of gardening tuitorials on YouTube..anything from growing seeds indoors, propagation, collecting seeds, etc. Just type in what you want to find and you'd be surprized at the information there. WhiteFlowerFarm does a lot of them and I came across how you collect seeds from the hollyhock plant. With their close up tuitorial, I feel confident in knowing how.
