A watched pot will not boil! The watched petals will not unfurl. ^_^

podster.....I'm sorry I hadn't responded earlier, my mother lives in S.E. Kansas.

I am afraid that far north, she would have to leave it in a large pot and move it in overwinter. That can be done obviously when we see Lily_Love Kims' pot full. I was just looking at the Plant Delights Nursery catalogue and their Crinums are zoned from 7 to 10.

Afraid too that the solid white spider I posted above is probably not considered a Crinum but a Hymenocallis. Still love it!

Kim ~ I am patiently waiting. I am also researching to see if yours can be ID'd.

Podester,

That is def. a Hymenocallis, not a crinum. Same family but very different Genus!

Yes... thanks. The elderly gentleman that gave me those large bulbs called them Crinums. He also gave me the ones that bloom red.

It's finally! Ooooh and the fragrant is out of this world! An enchanting aroma emits long before I saw the flowers from a distance. It's worth the hauling in and out of the garage each winter.

Kristi, I've read that crinums blooms best when roots bound. So I left each individual bulbs in a one-gallon pot and sunk them into the bigger container as shown. Enjoy-- I'm. Oh another drizzily day out there. Must be tropical depression from the gulf!

I'm thinking that might be Crinum x amabile, not sure tho!

Kim ~ that is beautiful! I didn't realize it wouldn't be red. Very nice. Glad too that it is fragrant ~ makes it double the pleasure.

I stumbled across this Crinum link if interested http://www.marcellescrinums.com/html/cinumspecies.html

DirtyGirl71 ~ this hardiness list on the Crinums might be of interest to your Mother. http://www.marcellescrinums.com/html/hardiness.html

Josh thanks for the id on my crinum. No clue where I got that one or when it was planted. I saw the leaves coming up and I thought it was strange because they reminded me of crinum leaves but the plant was so small and it was in a place where I would not typically put any crinum since the space is so small.

Marie, your collection of Crinums is fab.! Thanks for sharing the pictures. I'll exit the thread, will revisit when I've more crinum's blooms to share at another time.

Thanks Lily_love. I wish I would have kep track better of their names but I sure do enjoy them.

To my surprise, here comes another 'Queen Emma' crinum flower stalk. It will take roughly 3 days for all the flowers to open from this stage. Just discovered this one this morning. It appears as if from no where...pow! Here it's!

Thanks podster... I still am unsure about her having to actually dig them up during winter...she leaves Daylily bulbs in the ground, as well as the Surprise Lily and Iris...she does take in the EE's and a few other things...

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Dirtygirl ~ you may have to donate one so she can test drive it.

Kim ~ I have noticed bloom stalks seem to be triggered by a good rainfall here.

Thanks Kristi for passing along the observation. I'll post more pics. as the flowers develope.
