Hello! Recently these beetles keep flying into my flat, fall on their backs and cant seam to get up again, its very anoying as I Have to save them all, one even flew into some water, luckily I saw it happen so saved it...
But ive no idea what they are.
When it moves it makes a almost crunching noise, sort of chitinous, if thats a sound.
Sadly its not a garden shot, but after saving this one from a pot of water it happily dried off on a piece of tissue paper and posed for a photo!
CLOSED: Unknown Large-Flying beetle
This beetle is in the family Scarabaeidae; it looks very much like a species known as the summer chafer, Amphimallon solstitialis - see http://tinyurl.com/locrph for an image and more information.
Ah great thankyou! It says they swarm around tall buildings.... A 14 story tower block might answer why im getting them!
Nice to know they are semi-rare and ive seen one!
Are those what we call June bugs here in the states???
Very similar. Most 'June bugs'/'May beetles' are in the genus Phyllophaga - see http://tinyurl.com/2aedfeo for an example.
