I took this back in 2004 on a boat in Guilin China. Recently I read some stuff about Kissing Bugs and their photo made me remember this beetle-thing. It was out in broad daylight and didn't try to lunge at anything, but then again it was looking the other way :)
Any ideas who this guy is?
Kissing/Assassin bug (or relative?)
This insect is a plant feeder, it's a stink bug (Hemiptera/Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) that looks a lot like the yellow-spotted stink bug, Erthesina fullo - see http://tinyurl.com/2fxuzn4 for an image.
