I can't tell if the goo is part of the moth or if it's some sort of egg-sac. As you can tell from the pic, the moth is quite furry/feathery.

CLOSED: What kind of moth is this & what sort of goo is on its back?
The appearance of this moth is 'normal' for its type; it is in the family Lasiocampidae and the genus Tolype - see http://tinyurl.com/3822ugv for an example. There are several species in this genus that can be quite similar in general appearance , so I would hesitate to be 100% certain that this one (Tolype velleda) is an exact match.
