Now I have this. What happenened. So typical Optimara. Same abundance of flowers, wrong color. Not semidouble any more either...
I am so not HAPPY, because i actually have a bunch of nice plantlets, which, of course, I won't know how they'll bloom. What to do ???

wow, what happened there???? Never had that happen.

It's pretty either way, but the white doubles were awfully pretty! Sometimes they revert back, but often not.
Was this a noid, or a named hybrid? Some of the noids are genetically unstable and revert to the characteristics of of one of it's parents. Lots of other variables can also cause a violet to change characteristics. Also a first bloom can appear markedly different from subsequent blooms. Even certain varieties are known to be more prone to sporting. Personally, I think AV's are very unpredictable, as far as blooming plants go--but the surprises can be very exciting!

This one is labeled 'Lil Snowdrift'--had solid colored blue-violet blooms at first. This is it's 3rd bloom with a chimera type flower. It has more leaf variegation with cooler temps.

wow, very intresting, love this little one.

It had Optimara label. So We - this thread - looked and thought it to be either glacier or hiroshig. Optimaras are know to be unstable.....

This one is turning toward chimara type flowers. Blue with a magenta stripe.

Annoys me - just because I have quite a few little ones from this plant so not sure what will come.

I'd love to give you a piece Bonnie, and it looks healthy, but I don't think you want me sending you anything right now. If it helps, I'm pretty sure it sported from "Lil Snowdrift" that I bought from Karin Dean at least a year ago. Given the chaos that has been my life for @ the past year, it is also possible I mis-labeled while repotting it, but it is the sport of something nonetheless as I have not purchased or been given any chimeras .

Hi There;
Oh yes, it's to hot here to send anything. But it sure is a beauty, lol

Mine Optimara surprised me with her second flush of blooms as well. The color is waaaaaaay darker blue but I'm happy the flower shape stayed the same. BTW I kept looking for it's name and found Optimara Kim with similar description, too bad they had no photo for her.

yours is beautiful. pretty blue. years ago wrangler (Ithink) came out with this blue. Your plant is nice shape - mine too but the blossoms- Oh my- makes me sad because I don't like single violets. Those you pick out side. (up north that is) Helene

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Helene, I could sent you some leaves if you'd like to give them a try, just LMK

I think that I've had this Noid for years. Sometimes it blooms one way, sometimes another, and sometimes mixed. Also like Carpathian Girl's. Give it time. It will delight you again.

Longboat Key, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh cannot kill a plant that has bloomed for me. All gods creations. So she stays. I just grow them in one area then they go to various Bath BR office. etc.
Maria thank you for the offer. I am travelling for 2 months then when I come back perhaps? HD

Longboat Key, FL(Zone 9b)

Maria, yours looks sooo muuuch better than mine. I forget to fertilize

your DG Name what does it mean?

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the compliment, she does getting better every day. Phoebesviolets could be right and yours might get fuller blooms later on, keep us posted. Oh, I never fertilized most of my plants maybe because a lot of them are succulents. Now I'm getting into gessies so probably should consider it.

My name means a very nice region in Eastern Europe -- the Carpathian Mountains on the border of Ukraine and Poland. I really miss them... BTW Pennsylvania reminds me of them a lot, the hills and rivers and pines look very similar.

Longboat Key, FL(Zone 9b)

I thought so "Die Karpaten". I come from German Speaking yugoslav parents. here over 60 years. Helene

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Hey, almost neighbours! Probably even closer than from FL to OH! I'm the first generation here, only 8 years

Longboat Key, FL(Zone 9b)

We did buy the same AV - yours is nicer than mine - as if we knew we were neighbors....

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Our roots got the same nutrients lol

Well I really liked that sparkling white color embellished with baby blue hues, hope she'll get a little lighter... I wonder if she gets more light will she change the color? mine gets morning sun, I thought south exposure could be too much for her

Longboat Key, FL(Zone 9b)

I agree, we do have strong roots.

I have at least 5 or more plantlets from this Optimara, they grow beautiful so I'll just let them develop and see what happens.. I made them for SIL , DD and other DD they want to get back into Violets as well. I'll keep them until they bloom. Very disappointed though.

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Who knows, maybe you'll get some interesting ones? And whenever you're ready for the new leaves you'll get them.

Hmmm, I wonder does it happen to other AVs like Rob's, Ma's etc.? or Optimara only?

Longboat Key, FL(Zone 9b)

Optimara only. They do not (that is most of the time) give the AV the 3 growing cycle. They don't wait for the plants to flower 3 times. They don't care to register all their plants with the AVSA. Having a plant bloom 3 times then you can get registrations. All the other growers take this more seriously. Helene

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Now the flowers are perfectly white, probably because of flourescent light they got in November. Interesting.... because my other AVs seem to have the darker blooms under lights. I wonder how much the flower color can change because of light?

Very nice Maria.Color can vary a lot, especially if you use Gro-lights.

Longboat Key, FL(Zone 9b)

Well mine is ready to bloom also - will see what color it
ll be in a couple of days.

Indianapolis, IN

My bi-color violets bloom whiter in cooler temperatures.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Yes,that's so true.It also brings out the variegation in the foliage so much more.

Longboat Key, FL(Zone 9b)

we call one of our daughters "Leisure" she loves it. it's a long story.
Wait till I show you the blooms now - horrific- will post tomorrow. That happens so often to Optimara because they don't grow all their plants from leaf for three years...
