Found this guy sitting on a towel by our pool. He had a fairly skinny abdomen, so its not a black widow. Any ideas?
CLOSED: Black Spider w/ Red Mark [Houston, TX]
This spider is in the family Corinnidae (antmimic/ground sac spiders) in the genus Castianeira; possibly Castianeira descripta - see http://tinyurl.com/p4ldjr for an image. These spiders are harmless to humans.
Ah perfect! I checked some pictures and it looks just like a Castianeira descripta. Thankfully they're harmless to humans :)
I appreciate the help!
