I'm finding lots of new moths & butterflies this season. I try to ID them but this moth eludes me.
I 'adjusted' the image to show detail, it's actually darker than this. A little over 1 inch wide.

Rusty Checkerboard moth
This appears to be a horned spanworm moth, Nematocampa resistaria (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) - see http://tinyurl.com/24jkwpm for an image. The caterpillar of this species is quite bizarre in appearance - see http://tinyurl.com/2dd565w for an image.
