this Caterpiler invaded my raised garden and settled on the carrot and green bean plants. Can anyone ID this thing for me? Thanks
Yellow Caterpiller ???
These are not caterpillars at all, but are pupae of a leaf-feeding beetle. The most likely suspect is the Mexican bean beetle, Epilachna varivestis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) - see http://tinyurl.com/36duz4z for an image. Mature larvae of this beetle often leave their host plant (beans) before undergoing pupation.
Don1940,
We have a page for the Mexican Bean Beetle - Epilachna varivestis in BugFiles here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/4160/
but with no picture of its pupae.
It would be good if you would add your image to that page,
Kennedy
