I live in Maine and these spiders are in the corner near my front door. It looks like they are a family, however they look different so i am not sure. Anyone know what type of spiders they are?
Cheers
CLOSED: CLOSED: SPIDERS??
These appear to be a male and female orb weaving spider (family Araneidae) along with a shed 'skin' (exuvium) below them. They likely are in the genus Araneus, but I would be very hesitant to try and place a specific name on them. One of the commoner species in your area is the highly variable species Araneus marmoreus - see http://tinyurl.com/2g5c26y for some examples. All orb weavers are harmless to humans.
