I just made

I just made a DIY cloning machine .... I used the info for a 5gal bucket! pluged it in and it seeded to work!!! So what should I try first any suggestion?

Oxford, MS(Zone 7a)

Hey janemarierose!... I just made me a 'cloning' system too.
I am trying different kinds of plants..I have put in some Buddleja davidii 'White Profusion', some Prunus glandulosa 'Rosea Plena', some Lagerstroemia indica, some Calycanthus floridus, some Morus rubra (Red Mulberry...for my Dad), some Monarda didyma 'Jacob Cline' .

Just try what you like from your yard....if they don't root...try again! Have fun!

I have my husband looking into making one for me. Do you all have yours inside or outside?
I'm assuming roses will root this time of year with it.

I have one that someone made but it never roots stuff for me, it just turns the plants black from rot. It germinates seeds well though.

How do you germinate seeds in it?

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

You just use those jiffy seed starter things inside the little cup where you would try to root a cutting, and put the seeds in them, while the jiffy things are wet. The cloner bubbles and keeps the jiffy thing damp and really fast seeds start germinating in it. Getting them out was the trick, so I advise shoving the whole jiffy thing in your next pot or waiting till they are a little easier to pull out of the jiffy thing. they grow in it, like when you germinate in a coffee filter, it grows into it.

I threw some peroxide on the jiffy things once in a while and sometimes some vitamins, once they germinated.

Hmmm, do they need to be inside or out? I'm wondering why yours didn't root anything and only rotted things? I want to make sure my is built right to root cuttings and I truly need help with propagating seeds.

Well if yours looks like mine, like a plastic rubber made type container, with water and a fish tank pump for O2 and holes cut in the lid, with little baskets in them to hold the jiffy pots. Mine is the same. I know seeds germinate fast in it, but your guess is as good as mine as to why things rot. Maybe my water level is off. I don't know.
