CLOSED: Bee or Wasp and what to do?

Great Neck, NY

We seem to have an infestation of some type of insect that is nesting “inside” an eave. The bug is slipping between the slats of an eave and is creating a nest that isn’t visible.

The tail is somewhat long and cylindrical, body has some yellow and the face almost looks like it has a yellow smile on it. Total length is about 1 inch.

My question is what type of bug is this? And what’s the best approach in removing the hive?

We are located in Long Island, New York.

I cannot be certain from this image, but it could be an introduced species, the giant resin bee (Megachile sculpturalis; Hymenoptera: Megachilidae). See http://tinyurl.com/24sepr8 for detailed information. Originally found primarily in southeastern states, they now have been reported from as far north as Ontario, Canada.
