We found this on a small maple tree and my husband was worried if it was a stinging type of caterpillar or not.
I will post three pics of it, though I could not get a good side view where the "fur" is a light aqua tone. Lovely.
Thanks!

This appears to be a larva of a white-marked tussock moth, Orgyia leucostigma (Lepidoptera: Erebidae; subfamily Lymantriinae) - see http://tinyurl.com/2ak5yqk for an image.
Thanks, suunto! I have seen the Hickory tussock moth larva and thought this one looked similar, but thanks to you I know now for sure! The larva is so beautiful; the moth? eeh.
