eggs under leaf

Fort Worth, TX

There are multiple lines of eggs underside the leaves of my pepper plant. They start off kind of translucent then turn dark as they develop. I tried to scrape them off but I couldn't, I ended up just scratching the leaf. They are damaging to the leaves, and on the top sides of the leaves you can see a white line wherever the rows of eggs are. What kind of insect is causing this? How can I get rid of it?

kujen, don't know exactly which one but it's one of the katydid type insects, almost certain of that. they lay eggs in rows that kind of stick up and away from the leaf or sometimes are in that "domino" row lying down. just cut the leaf with the eggs and dispose of it.

galeshade, you probably should start your own thread for your grape problem. more people will see it that way and you can mark it solved when you need to. if kujen marks this one solved, no one else will look at the your post.

trackinsand, thanks for your response but I'm not sure these eggs are from a katydid. I looked up their eggs and they look more rounded, like a scale. These eggs are lying flat against the leaves and look a bit thinner. They are on most of the leaves and spreading to my other pepper plants. I can't cut off the leaves because they are just on too many. Is there anything else I can do?

i would spray the undersides with castile soap and water. castile is made from oils but doesn't leave that oily residue which causes leaves to burn. it's organic and it will kill all insects so don't spray it on bees. as long as an insect isn't directly sprayed, it won't hurt any of the good ones. be on the lookout for ones you missed that end up hatching and it you come across a colony of young "whatevers", you can spray them before they get out of hand.

you can also try Diatomaceous Earth, another earth friendly idea. use garden grade, not pool grade.
