Fort Myers, FL

My dad found this beautiful bug today & I've never seen one before... We live in southwest Florida. Thank you!

It looks like one of the clear wing moths.

Thanks for the lead! I just went through about a million pages on BugGuide.net, looking for this particular clear winged moth, and just can't find one that looks just like it... I can't even find one that's all red. The closest thing I'm finding are ones whose top half is black & bottom half is red, but those don't even have the iridescent blue that the one in my photo has.

This is a scarlet-bodied wasp moth, Cosmosoma myrodora (Lepidoptera: Erebidae; subfamily Arctiinae) - see http://tinyurl.com/yfvltnw for images and more information. There has been considerable recent revision in the taxonomic status of moths in the superfamily Noctuioidea (to which arctiids belong), and I'm still learning where things are now!

Churchill, Victoria, Australia(Zone 10a)

We have a page for that moth in BugFiles here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/1371/
and would be please if you would add your image and location (zipcode) to this page,

Kennedt
