Emergency E-Mail Alert Service

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

This is an awesome service: http://208.184.24.125/EMENHome.htm

You put in your state and county, and then you receive e-mail alerts from local, regional and national government sources. I'm signed up to receive alerts such as Severe Weather Information (non-emergency), Outage Info from local electric, gas, water; Locating Emergency Supplies; Daily Weather Forecasts (if available); Routine Blood Drives; Travel Advisories.

For instance, I got an e-mail regarding Greyhound suspending all bus travel nationwide. I also hear about local blood drives being held. And if a bad storm is headed my way, I'm alerted.

I also just learned the service is donating 25-cents to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Innitiative for each new sign-up, up to $10,000. They say it is for the next 10 days, but I don't know when the drive was originally posted. They have details at their site.

There is no cost to sign up. Click around their site - there's a lot of info there!
