Duranta Erecta

Are Duranta Erecta's easy to propagate?

Brewster, MN(Zone 4b)

From my experience they weren't easy, but I had some success. I tried rooting in water and using rooting hormone and soilless potting mix. Had mixed results with both methods. Try several cuttings and hope at least some grow for you. They are such cool plants! Good Luck!

Mine was very easy to propagate. I usually use peat moss, sand and soil....all sifted if time permits.
I also use root tone. I think it took about 4-6 weeks.

Do you have any idea the ratio you used?

Ventress, LA(Zone 8b)

probably 1 part sand; 4 parts peat moss; 1 part soil. I also add perilte...probably 1 part. Would you like cuttings?

I have the white, but not the blue. Do you think I should try to root them now or wait until the fall. I am perfectly fine waiting.

I would give it a try now and then again in the fall. Take all the bottom leaves off leaving about 3 leaves on the top portion. I also snip the tip top off about 1/4 inch thinking this will cause it to branch once it takes root. If you have rootone use that, but is not necessary. I use a spray bottle of water and mist it when I check on it and well as water it. Good luck! I have the varigated flower.....purple with a white ring on the edge of the flower.

I would like to have the varigated one. I've seen those and they are very pretty. Let me try rooting my cutting before you send one of yours.
Would you like cuttings of my white one?

Ventress, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks, but no thanks for the white one. I have enough to take care of now.

I know what you mean. I have started over 100 cuttings of different plants. I have gone nuts, lol.
