Yellow Oleander

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Four years, I do not think I have that long. LOL.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

My Mexican Oleander (Thevetia peruviana) are both blooming profusely again,...after the rain. I've seed pods on both...for the 1st time (they're 2 yrs old - from cuttings)...so I'm pleased to have a chance to see if I can start from seed. Anyone have any experience with seed propagation of this?

In india, they used to sprout from seeds on the ground. Here, I have not seen one sprout. I also tried to root cuttings and failed miserably. I am not sure I am helping you :)

Well,...I love a challenge....so I'll be delighted to attempt germinating seeds. I'm going to attempt an "air layer" on both plants and see how readily they will "take". Thanks for the input! BTW - I'm still trying to contact my source of yellow oleander cuttings - I was told they're traveling on vacation. Should be back soon

I am going to send her some cuttings WTG. I would love to have a Mexican Oleander (Thevetia peruviana) if you can get one started. They are beautiful.

I was ask today if I needed more plants I said he-- yes. I want one of every plant and one of every color. ;o) And I am slowly working on it one plant at a time.

Blessings,
Sandy

Does anyone live near Abilene Texas? We are going to visit one of my husbands friends and I would like to check out the nurseries to see what they have in doubles and fragrant.

Oh my this is why it is dangerous for me to surf through the forums
I want yellow and doubles ...LOL...DH moved right over the one I had rooted from Willis a year ago so I only have the one Darkmoondreamer gave me this year. sigh

I just ordered three Mexican Oleanders and got message via e-mail the plants will be here in three days. You guys are dangerous. I am going to put them in my holding garden and then see if I can get them to grow and propagate.

Logee's just has peachblossom. It's a double and smells like talcum powder. The Mexican Oleander is not a regular oleander. It's another type of plant.

Oh, I realized that but had never seen any around here so I thought I would give them a try. Probably in a pot. Logee's looked like a very dangerous place for me to visit.

i am wondering why start from a seed if you can start from a branch? wouldn't the branch be a lot easier and quicker?

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I am back in the hospital again but love to trade. Just dmail me and when I can I will get back to you. If your in a hurry you can but one. My cuttings would not be rooted.

Sandy,
I'm sorry to hear that you are back in the hospital.

Hmmmm......guess I could ask why start from a branch,...when you could buy a whole plant? I really enjoy propagating from seed...nurturing from the beginning to a mature plant....yes it takes time...even years in many cases.....but it's the long "trip" that has more meaning....to me. Learning the requirements for success when growing from seed is also enjoyable for me!

I also like to cross different varieties of plants....which means that the seed.....will be different than either parent.
Patience.....is very necessary!

I do propagate from cuttings and layers (including air layers)....which is fascinating as well....I guess one has to determine why........ they want to "assist"... in creating another plant. The best method will be obvious

thanks for your answer--i guess i am in a hurry for a plant --i am someone who flies by the seat of my pants as far as gardening--not a lot of planning--
i hope i didn't sound critical-- sometimes in print something can sound that way when it isn't meant to be--i really was just curious--
i admire your curiosity and patience!

Oh Linda don't mind me....I joke around a bit...I wasn't offended at all! I like cuttings or layering methods when I DO need to propagate fast ....for instance,....when a Round Up is comin' and I want to share starts of a plant someone(s) would like to have! I guess the challenge of starting seed .......is part of the appeal! I like a good challenge....comes with bein' a Texan! L:ee

WillisTxGarden,
Do you know of any nurseries in the area that have nice and different oleanders. I'm looking for some unique named colors that have a scent and are doubles. I would also prefer doubles. I think we will have to drag them in the hotel every night so they don't cool in the car. Hopefully we will be driving back through Texas in September. I know the heat will also be miserable.
I would really like to see the moody gardens too.
Please all of you that grow oleander come over to the oleander forum.
I would love to learn how to air layer.

In Asia I saw several oleander that had many colors grafted to one tree. They were very beautify.
I will have cuttings of Sunset and Apple Blossom and Casa Grand pink for sure soon and others next year. I have some unknown that are rooted for trade. Legally we can't have them sent to Arizona but that doesn't stop some places.
We should tale this conversation to the oleander forum.
