CLOSED: Interesting little sphinx moth

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

It has a creamy yellow underwing and the moth is on the small side for the sphinx moths I generally see here. I'm assuming it is Sphingidae as it has similar characteristics to familiar species.

Another view.

I'd like to add it to Bugfiles, but need a name.

This does appear to be a sphinx moth, but it does not resemble any of the commoner species that I am familiar with. It could be either an out of area stray, or an aberrant individual of an otherwise common species. When I have time, I'll do a little digging on this one - I may be overlooking something obvious (my wife tells me I'm good at that...).

I was looking through moths and butterflies and found this one.

I think you nailed it - the Abbott's sphinx - the foreshortening of the image really threw me off base...

Here's a side view and this is outdoors in regular daylight if that helps for a positive ID. (the others were just inside my back door by a window)

The link sure looks like my guy/gal though.

Thanks everyone!

Whew! I always feel a tad intimidated by IDing insects but this one looked so close. Thanks for the validation, suunto!

It isn't a common visitor in KY from what I can determine. There are reports of it here, but not many and not often.
