It has a creamy yellow underwing and the moth is on the small side for the sphinx moths I generally see here. I'm assuming it is Sphingidae as it has similar characteristics to familiar species.
CLOSED: Interesting little sphinx moth
This does appear to be a sphinx moth, but it does not resemble any of the commoner species that I am familiar with. It could be either an out of area stray, or an aberrant individual of an otherwise common species. When I have time, I'll do a little digging on this one - I may be overlooking something obvious (my wife tells me I'm good at that...).

I think you nailed it - the Abbott's sphinx - the foreshortening of the image really threw me off base...

Whew! I always feel a tad intimidated by IDing insects but this one looked so close. Thanks for the validation, suunto!
It isn't a common visitor in KY from what I can determine. There are reports of it here, but not many and not often.
