I planted 3 cleveland pears about a month ago.
I noticed two of them have a couple branches turning black from the top and going down the branch toward the trunk. The leaves are turning black and falling off.
Is this ok? Should I prune it off, will it leaf out again next year? is it a fungus of some kind?
I tried to get a pic, it's hard to get one that shows it.
black branch on new cleveland pear, dying?
Could be fireblight?
Resin
that does sound like it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_blight
It says the tree can be saved if the affected parts are removed.
I guess I will cut it off!
