I have had the lily 'Eyeliner' in the ground a couple of years now. It put on an amazing show this year. Today I was looking at them and noticed two have stem roots below the blooms. I immediately cut them off and potted them up. Very happy!
I did a search in this forum for this topic, but didn't find anything that dealt with it specifically.
Here's a pic of the bloom, then pics of the roots.

Stem roots
And another with the leaves removed.
I've never seen anything like it ~ how far up the stem were the roots? Can you re-post the 3rd pic?
That is just weird! Hope you have luck rooting it ~ do keep us posted on your progress. Thanks for all the pics. :)
Very interesting. Can you think of anything that may have come in contact with that area (only) that may have triggered such a proliferation? --- nick or scrape, touch of Round Up or some other chemical, insect repellent, mud, ketchup* (I'm not kidding! You just never know...)
*Ketchup has special qualities, according to the Prairie Home Companion Show. LOL
As does Windex! ;)
Any possibility it could be water related? Have you had tons of rain?
That is definitely interesting.
Nothing that I can think of. I suppose something could have happened when that point of the stem was at ground level earlier this spring.
Hhmmm...

Polly,
That's about the only thing I can think of - we did ahve several big storms a few months ago. maybe that's it.
