I found this spider very close to an open door into my house. I have never seen anything like it around here and would appreciate some help with identification and information about it, especially since it was on its way into my house! It was approx. 3.5 inches long and 2 inches wide and seemed to have one injured leg. Most spiders around here are harmless but are definetly not that big. Please help.

This is a funnel web spider (family Agelenidae) in the genus Tegenaria, likely the giant house spider, Tegenaria duellica. See http://tinyurl.com/272sp6u for detailed information; these spiders are not dangerous to humans.
