Need Help Identifying a Bug

Crawfordville, FL

I have bugs on my Kentucky Wonder Pole Beans, but not sure what they are. They don't appear to be causing any damage, but I'd like to be able to identify them just in case. They are small, about 1/8" long, black, with an orange stripe going down each side. I haven't seen them flying, or eating. They just seem to be sitting on the leaves of the beans. I don't think they are beetles because they don't have a hard shell. They have been there for about a month. What do you think?

can you possibly get a photo of the bug please it would help a great deal

I just took this picture...I realize it's a bit blurry, but the wind was blowing when I snapped the photo. I think it's good enough to identify the bug, though.

It has six legs.

The photo is too out of focus for a determination - if you look at it, you can see that the background is clear while the foreground is fuzzy. Try placing one or more of these on a plain sheet of paper and taking another photo. It does not look like any of the common pests of beans that I am familiar with.

I saw them fly for the first time today, and it was when I was trying to take the photo. I'm not sure I could get one on a piece of paper without having to kill it. I'm such a baby, I know. I'll go try to take another picture.

You bug looks like it MIGHT be a baby milkweed insect

Crawfordville, FL

Yes, you're right. The markings are a little different, but close enough to make me wonder if its just one of the many types of milkweed bugs. But, I wonder why they're on my beans if they feed on milkweed seeds? I suppose I'll just leave them alone until I can be sure that they're doing damage. Thank you!

This does appear to be a true bug (Hemiptera/Heteroptera), but I doubt that it is a milkweed bug. You still need to obtain an image that is in better focus.

I'll take one tomorrow with the digital camera...that should give us a better image.
