Hi,
I found this on my potato plants.
Interesting looking creature. After the photo session, it flew off.
I'd love to know what it is. Friend or foe?
CLOSED: What kind of insect is this
This is a friend; it is a snakefly (Raphidioptera: Raphidiidae), likely in the genus Agulla - see http://tinyurl.com/25r2ju3 for images. Both the adults and larvae (see http://tinyurl.com/24e6whd) are general predators on other small arthropods. Until recently, they were included in the order Neuroptera.
Thank you Suunto! I loved the look of this insect, and now that I know it's a garden friend, I am even happier!
