Reports of Bird Numbers in Your Area or Yard

Barberton, OH

I never got close enough to identify the black birds in the trees, but they have more tail than a starling. I have had 1 or 2 redwings, male and female, spend the winter. My other thought would be cowbirds.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Here in our area, the Redwinged Blackbirds are frequent visitors year round. They stay in large flocks, and generally don't hang around very long. Seem like they're constantly on the move. Their calls quite distinct.

Ah, I spotted Grackles among the Redwinged above.

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

Lots of redwing black birds about 2 weeks ago along with many robins.
Saw a large flock of cedar waxwings on the Bradford Pears.

Nice EFG to see large flock of cedar waxwings. Seems like the Redwing Black Birds get along with many other blackbirds. Oh I meant to say, I've both Downy and Redheaded woodpeckers this winter, especially since early Jan. But my Redbellied Wps. aren't anywhere to be seen.

Have seen sapsucker at the feeder. He/she takes sunflower seeds up and hides them in the trees. Lots of house finches, gold finches, cardinals, chickadees at the feeders. my Dear Hubby is very conscientous about putting out food for them. We put up a new feeder on the window, and they fight over it. Have a Red Hawk hanging around,, hope he's looking for rats.. I did find a sparrow in the pond this evening..yuk.

The Great Backyard Bird Count Feb 18 to 21 tries to answer some of these questions . Any of you all participating this year?

Oh, forgot to mention that the link to GBBC site above lets you review results from previous years for comparison.

Here, cardinals less, others about the same with the addition of a mockingbird (haven't seen one for years) and a cat bird.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Yep! Every year! Always enjoy it!

Quote from JBerger :
May I ask a question please, I do not want to get off your subject matter, but I do not know where else to go to ask.
I live in NJ also, near McGuire AFB and this morning a very big flock of blackbirds invaded the bird feeders. I was wondering, do Blackbirds migrate? I am so looking for signs of Spring. I did not see any redwings and I am not sure if there are more than one kind of blackbird around here or not. Can you help me or can someone tell me where to find the answer. Thank you. Have a nice day. JB

JB Yes Blackbirds migrate. Check out this link http://ebird.org/content/ebird/news/rubl-survey-2010

Did you get any sort of pic? And flocks also can be mixed.
