CLOSED: Fuzzy Bug

I found this fuzzy bug in the front yard today. I have never seen anything like this before. Any ideas?

I am no bug expert but it kinda looks like these huge termites I have seen but they where not fuzzy

I could not find anything about fuzzy termites but here is a photo of a giant dampwood.....there known to be a problem in california and surrounding areas

This is a female velvet ant (Hymenoptera: Mutillidae), a wingless wasp with a very potent sting; males are winged like most ‘normal’ wasps. This one appears to be a Dasymutilla sp. - see http://tinyurl.com/2dn6urj for an example.
