Does anyone know what this is? It has done major damage overnight, just about killing 3 blooms. I sprayed with Malathion yesterday and there are tens of them inside and out :-((
CLOSED: Bug on my Brugmansia
These are spotted cucumber beetles, Diabrotica undecimpunctata howardi (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) - see http://tinyurl.com/22tsp6s; they can be very destructive to a variety of plants. I use Rotenone dust for control; Sevin also should work, but be very careful if bees are in the area (they are very sensitive to Sevin).
I thought it looked like the ones that were in the article yesterday but wasn't sure. I do have some spray Sevin. I will try that. Will it stop future "landings" and should I spray the area where they are or just the plant?
Just spray the plant, not the surrounding area. Sevin does have some residual activity; just keep an eye on the plant(s), and reapply if you see fresh feeding activity.
Thanks once again suunto ;-)
