Difficult to I.D.

...I knew this maybe a long shot! But these 'bugs' bugs me, for I saw them in various places in the garden. I'm trying to raise a butterfly garden, thus keeping chemical down to a minimum. What is this little bug? They've small legs and scooting about in a fast moving manner. Sometimes they appear to have some white powery substances on them. For size contrast. The flower buds are those of tropical milkweed's.

The image is not clear enough to attempt an identification - it appears to be a nymph of a bug (order Hemiptera); these can be either good (predaceous) or harmful/neutral (sap feeders). See if you can take another image that can be enlarged further without loosing too much detail.

I'll try another image tomorrow. Thank you.

possibly a "trashbug" which, i think, is the larvae of a lacewing. if so, it's a friend.

here are some pics. http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=trash%20bug&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi

i love the way they scuttle about.

Looks like a stinkbug nymph but if you have a better picture someone will know I am sure. Can they fly?

The best way to get a clear pic is to hold a piece of paper or white cardboard under a bunch of them and knock them off of the plant onto it. Cameras focus better on little critters when there isn't a bunch of other stuff around to focus on...

thanks Juneybug for the tips. I'll try that when I come home from a vacation. I was puzzled why I couldn't get a good pix for the 'thing' is quite large. It's roughly the size of a wasp's head. You comment made me realized its gray color made it hard for the lense to focus. Thank.

bluekat76, no the 'bug' doesn't fly. But move back and forth very swiftly when disturbed.

sunnto, thanks for your follow up. I'll try to get some more pics. soon to help 'close' this case. :-)
