Sourse for pots for transplant

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I am wondering where you all get your pots from when transplanting seedlings in cell packs to larger pots. I want to graduate them up so they can mature a little more before putting them in the ground. Where can I get bulk pots for this purpose.

A large local landscape firm gave me all I wanted. They have them piled sky high.

If you live near a box store, ask the gardening center manager to let you have pots that are being trashed. They just toss them in the dumpster. Drive through the neighborhood the evening before that type of trash is picked up.

Yep - I have never bought a pot! Most any landscaping co will give them to you, just ask if they have any used pots. If you see landscapers planting things, they will gladly give you the pots so they don't have to carry them away.

At the nursery I work at we have a giant mountain in the back of pots in all shapes and sizes. We are happy to part with the smaller ones, but kinda stingy on 5 gallon and above, as they are needed for canning up bare root roses and fruit trees. So, go hit up your local nursery.

Thanks...all great ideas!

Our local nursery also has a Mountain - they sell the larger ones for .50.

I went to my local nursery today. Anything under 1 gallon was free, with 1 gallon pots starting at 18 cents and going up from there. It would probably cost me that much or more in shipping if I ordered them.
On my way home I found a lot of 6 inch pots on the street side ready for trash pick up.

Way to go. It is amazing what people will give you to get rid of it.
