Thank you. Ponds and such sounds like alot of work!! I have a part of the yard that floods every time we get any rain up to about 6 inches. I was thinking of planting some bog plants there but after reading allo this I am not at all sure that I can do it right. Thank you for the info

There is a difference between a pond and bog. I would put in a few bog type plants into the area you mentioned to see how they do. If they do well, then plan out more of what you would like to put into that area....What do you have to lose other than a couple of plants?

I know Iris does well either as a bog plant, shallow pond plant or in regular soil. Just don't plant them deep. I've had Iris that have adapted both ways (pond to dry or dry to pond) with no problem. Lythrum (aka loosestrife) are another example of plants that do well either wet or dry.

Carolyn gave excellent advice. Just a few at a time and see how they do of any plant you choose.

Good luck. Post pictures when you have your bog garden done.

I'd love to see the pictures too.... this winter is too long and I for one am needing to see some beautiful bog pictures too!

When the gardening catalogs started coming I could not resist. I bought tons of plants while thinking about just where each plant would go. Now I look at them and think "no I already have a plant for there". Last year I bought way too many plants and ended up very sick so I could not plant all of them. My DH helped me alot but I know he hates to be outdoors, God Bless him. My health is vunerable. At least it still passes the time to look and pretend I am planing the garden for 2012. ! :) Thanks for your good advice. That is just what I will do. I ordered a Jack in the Pulpit and a Picthure Plant. I also got a book that I love to look at. Bizarre Botanicals by Larry Mellichanp and Paula Gross. I love unusual plants and flowers. Thanks for the advice.
