Angel Trumpet-HELP!!

Good lord. Most plants are not harmful and as long as you dont eat or SMOKE them they are all ok to grow. I do have a dog and I do think about what he might get into outside.

I have both brugs and datura. I have cats, dogs, and kids. My kids are old enough to know better than eat anything plant wise with out asking first. My cats only eat the walkers low. The dogs don't eat my plants. When one of them was a puppy she ate anything she could fit in her mouth and I had to keep them away from her. She doesn't touch any of them now. I do find that daturas are much easier to grow than brugs, they require much less attention in my yard. I guess some people will do anything huh :/

C~ if you would like a purple datura I would be happy to bring one to the RU for you.

Seeds for next year or a plant? Do they over winter for you? I had said I wasn't going because my yard is a disaster and I don't really have any trades but I was thinking about coming just to see what other people had this year. I do have some small starts of prairie phlox, want to swap one at the RU?

It's a small plant, but I have seeds also if you'd rather. I would love a start of the phlox. I'll meet you over at that thread. K

Cheryl I have two plants of Datura wrightii on my trade list, would you like to have them?

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

The first year after I moved to east Texas, teenagers were smoking Jimson weed to get high and they were dropping like flies. The local news got out the word that overdoses are always leithal.

I will take one and would you like a prairie phlox?

When I read things like that, it makes me wonder why so many kids would do that. What happened to raiding your parents liquir cabinet?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, I would like that Cheryl.

Now they just go to the medicine cabinet.

Xanax, hydrochodone, oxyconton and of course, sell and trade their own meds for ADHD such as Ritalin and Concerto.

Sad, sad.

Well, when so many of us take so many of those drugs what do we expect?

Speaking of poisonous plants and pets, it's not just ingesting them that is dangerous. One of our neighbors had a dog whose favorite spot to lie was in the shade of an oleander. Don't remember what kind of dog he was, but he was very large. He got very sick, hair falling out and vomiting, as if he were poisoned, and it wouldn't go away. He was always attended outside, so they couldn't figure it out. Finally someone noticed the dog lying under the oleander, and they determined that was the cause. The lady growing the oleander didn't even know it was poisonous. They did manage to save the dog, but it took him a long time to recover.

I have heard of people having to plant their brugs and daturas in locked, fenced areas because of teenagers taking the flowers and eating/smoking them. So very dangerous. They're best in the back where kids can't see them.

Did y'all know that azaleas dropping leaves into a pond can kill your fish?

Caddo Mills, TX(Zone 8a)

If you do plant them in the front and the teenagers get to them are you liable? I'm hoping to move, in the very near future, out to a much more rural area and I have animals that will be in the back so i was going to plant all of the poisonous stuff in the front.

One of the houses that we looked at has security cameras, I sure hope it doesn't have to come to that.

Patty, you could have helped me stumble onto what happened to my fish pond. I had 5 large goldfish that had wintered over and gotten to 6-8 ounces each. They spawned and I soon had 150 fish. Some died of natural causes or whatever. Long story short. About a month ago the pond water deteriorated rapidly. We gathered the babies and gave them away leaving the 5 original.
Went out last week and they were all dead. Have a crepe myrtle tree over it and it has been dropping flowers and then the seed pods into the water. Anyone know about the toxicity of crepe myrtle?
