CLOSED: Is this good or bad?

Seminole, FL

These caterpillars are eating my shrubs voraciously! Should I pick them off or leave them?

Thanks for your help!

looks like one of the good guys, depending on what you consider good. i think this one turns into a beautiful butterfly. i can't remember which one though.

This is a caterpillar of a moth in the family Geometridae (loopers, spanworms, inchworms, etc.); it looks a lot like Melanchroia chephise, which can be quite destructive. See http://tinyurl.com/27qmweh for images and detailed information.

Thanks, Suunto! The caterpillars are on my Snowbush. but, they were also on my Necklace Pod plant. Completely denuded it. It's growing back now. I really appreciate the info!

kodakitty, in the link that suunto provided, it mentions spinosad, which is what i use. you can find it at ace hardware in the garden department under the name Fertilome Borer, Bagworm Spray. it's totally organic, which is great, and will take care of any caterpillars you don't want.
