Wow, nice Celeste, look at those gardens!!!
Great day trip to High Point....in an area called the Skylands
http://www.njskylands.com/pkhighpt.htm
Vacation time
Cape May & Camden are 2 favorites.
roftl I was like, wha???? Camden, NJ?????
The Aquarium, Children's Garden and the USS NJ. in Camden. I had the same first reaction, Jen.
Ha ha! Me too. Didn't want to say anything.
and once again you have to wear blindfold driving in there...hahahaha who the heck would bring their car to Camden...take the train, drops you off right in front of the aquarium( I think the train cost us 50¢ for adult and 25¢ for kids)
Today im going to recomend visiting a Maine Lighthouse, or several. ^_^ We have over 60 of them dotting the Maine Coast, all have a history of their own....some more interesting than others.

That's neat Celeste, loved reading the stories about them.
Esp this part "After a particularly grizzly episode of cannibalism " YIKES!!!
Well they say Maine people are independent!
Like I said, some more interesting than others!! LOL
In Salem County
Cowtown Rodeo on Sat. from nd of May to end of Sept.
They also have a flea market on Tues. and Sat.
Fort Mott - If you go when there is a ferry running you can also go out to Fort Delaware in the bay
Salem City itself - very old 1600's
Appel Farm - concerts and such.
Bridgeport has the only zoo in Connecticut - Beardsley Zoo and the Barnum Museum as in PT.
Took one of my 4th grade classes to Beardsley....fun time.
White Mountains - I love to backpack up the Pemi several miles - and camp along the river.
Having jumped in the game late I have to agree with all that Pixie has mentioned, and also ad the Rangeley Lakes region (definitely 4 season). But I also like the white mountains in NH. If one goes to Acadia though you have all those antique shops to visit up Rt 1!!!!!

Did you see this article??? I'd love to go down there in the fall and see the migration of the butterflies.
Anywhere in Hunterdon County, NJ. Allaire park for the historic village (and kids LOVE the train ride). Six Flags, Jackson NJ for the pure adrenaline rush. A drive through Spring Lake or Sea Girt to see the effects of too much money, OR too much mortgage :) Holmdel Park. Any beach in NJ south of Sea Bright. Jan has south Jersey covered.
Although I live in NJ, I say this without prejudice, NJ has fantastic beaches. I've been to beaches in S. America, the Caribbean, NY, CA, RI, VA, MD, etc. They just don't measure up. NJ seems to have the perfect mix of sand and surf. The south of France may give us a run for our money. Someday maybe I'll get to test that theory. Too bad it wasn't 30 years ago, I wouldn't have been sporting any tan lines ;)
I like the thing about the tan lines!!!!
From a gardening point of view, I'd recommend the botanical garden in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
http://www.mainegardens.org/discover/explore-the-gardens
It is a fairly young garden, set into the woods along the rocky shore. The geologist in me loves what they've done with rock here, and the plants are wonderful too. Interesting sculpture set along the paths here and there, really awesome place.
And Boothbay Harbor itself is one of those quaint coastal towns that is loaded with small shops. Just to whet your appetite, I've included a picture of the meditation garden portion.
I'll second that. Went to the Botanical Garden in Boothbay a few weeks ago for the first time. We walked the paths and trails for four hours. Not sure we saw everything!
It is a fantastic place. DW loved the Fairy Gardens but actuallly it's hard to pick a favorite spot.
Jen, I agree with Cape May...have been quite a few times birding, & I'd go back in a second. I also love Boothbay, & made sure my DH visited it last year...our next door neighbors moved there about 10 years ago...didn't know about the botanical gardens...love that intricate stone walkway!
have to put that garden on the list
My vote is for the Adirondacks. That was part of my territory when I was gainfully employed (I work for my daughter part time now). I miss it.
Letchworth for a hiking vacation.
I have no tan lines.
Back home in MA I always enjoyed going to Salem. Not
for the Witch stuff but the restored homes dating back to
the 1600's. If you go be sure to visit the garden at
the Robes Mansion. Not extensive but cram packed and
owners down thru the years have tried to keep as many
original flowers as possible.
Nobska Light in Falmouth Harbor has been a favorite spot
of mine for over 30 yrs. Panoramic view of the Atlantic,
Martha's Vineyard & other islands in the Elizabeth Is. chain.
Pack a lunch & climb around the rocks or head down the hill
to the British pub.

If you like rollercoasters, Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH is really nice. It has lots of coasters.

Hubby loves roller coaster, I don't like the big drops or going backwards but other than that I'll do them
