I would like to know if it is OK to trim my Blue Holly Bushes now? If I trim them will they get more busher? If I trim them now will I cut the berries off of them now?
Trim or Not trim Blue Hollies
If you have Blue Holly plants that are growing in a healthy fashion, you can trim them at about any time you'd like for shape.
Pruning back long stems now will push bud breaks further in on the plant; these new "breaks" will create a denser look for your shrub.
Any stems you cut off that have had flowers this year means that those potential fruit will be removed.
Pruning flowering/fruiting plants is a science and an art. You have to understand the implications of removal of wood, based on how the plant grows, when/where on the plant the flowers and buds are formed, and thus the consequences to fruit production and display.
It isn't always a neat and clean answer - but don't be afraid to dive in there and experiment in a judicious fashion. It's the only way to learn.
