Ella everyone's name on the plantfiles wants them there's no names that has it :) Good idea though :) I might ask for them in the seed trading forum gosh don't even want to think of seeds still lol I wouldn't start them till next year just tried to start some foxgloves and dianthus a while back and this heat and rain wiped them out :( If yours bloom you could save some seeds lol I don't do well with cuttings at all but thanks!
I dmailed one of the people that showed a picture I know one person isn’t on here anymore I dmailed them a while back just to talk to them haven’t seen them around in so long, Doesn’t look like one person saves seeds from no feed back but there is one person that saves seeds will dmail them looks like there would be more people having these.
I’ve never had any luck with dmailing people like this remember about a year ago I asked someone to trade seeds from a plantfile picture never got a response :) I always answer peoples dmails just got one about the columbine seeds I offered above and sending out seeds to them.
I tried cuttings of a hibiscus that I didn't have any luck with germination with the seeds and lost them all, every year I try to take cuttings of something and it just never works lol
I loaned the neighbor's daughter my truck over the weekend she lost her house and had to move...she wrecked my truck bringing it back to me yesterday :( Looks like the tie rod the front tire on the drivers side is side ways and maybe the front of the frame? And the head light is busted. She had a seizure while driving she's alright and the other person is too but she almost hit her head on, the truck went into the other lane and she saw her coming so she stopped did a number on her van almost ripped the door off thank God Amanda wasn't going fast! I had just told my grandson I would give him the truck now I have to wait for the money to get it fixed I just had liability on it since it's so old it's an 86 or 87.
I’ve got a friend looking at it if it’s worth towing he’s going to tow it out here from town I was hoping he would call me back last night but he didn’t so I hope he calls me this morning so far it’s going to cost me $125 to get it out today. My insurance won’t pay the towing bill because it just had liability on it.
Seed Swap & Chat # 57 - summer is upon us
I didn't manage to mark my columbines as I intended while they were still blooming, so any seeds I have will just be a mix again. However, it seems to me that I've seen hummers after the blooms on double or lady's bonnet types as well as the long-spurred ones.
So sorry about the truck! Just like you, I know the important thing is that nobody was hurt (and it sounds like it could easily have been much worse for the people involved), but I also know how it is to lose a vehicle! You might see what her insurance covers.. I'm pretty sure mine covers collision damage even if I'm driving somebody else's car (or a rental).
Lea, sorry to hear about your truck. It seems to me that your neighbor who crashed it ought to pay for it.
It is aggravating to dmail someone and not get a response. I put a thread on the plant trading forum about it last week, and was surprised how many people think it's just fine to ignore dmails from others. I, also, always answer, even if they're off the wall, which they sometimes are.
I'm well into week two of sick in bed, and starting to get really a bit surly about it, not to mention my poor untended garden. I started on antibiotics yesterday, so hopefully will feel better when the plants I ordered to make me feel better arrive in a few days.
I did manage to get out to collect a mix of columbine seeds before they disappear on the ground.
Critter Amanda didn't have any ins. and driving on a suspended license :) I had no idea! Her mother didn't either! She is really messing her life up! 24 yrs. old and just lost her house too. I'm hoping it can be fixed that guy still hasn't gotten back to me I'm getting ready to go into town now to look at the truck and get med. for my kitty can't wait any longer she needs her med. I'll just have to make another trip in town later I guess.
PM, Amanda doesn't have the money to get my truck fixed I've already given her $200 to get out of jail for a dui and she is borrowing money to pay to get my truck out of inpound or whatever you call it today :) It's a long story lol I would love to make her pay for getting my truck fixed but just don't think that will happen no point in even asking her! Sorry you are sick hope you get to feeling better!
Sounds like you're too nice, Lea. Thanks for the well wishes.
Sorry to hear about your truck Lea , glad someone else other than me is over nice cause I am constantly getting in trouble trying to help other's. My daughter and I went to visit some ole friends yesterday and her friend made some comment about your mom hasn't learned to say no yet. Lol what an eye opener but want change me to ole now.
Just hope you can get truck and get fixed before you need it.
Hug's
Carolyn
Lea that is so awful that you got such a bad deal after being so kind! It makes ya realize why so few people are willing to offer help to others though!
Lee, sorry to hear about your truck and the events surrounding its unattractive re-arrangement. I can identify with the others who have commented about how sometimes helping someone out can backfire terribly. I betcha, though, if any of us could go back in time and do certain things differently, we would still do what we did - that's one of many reasons why I love the piggy family :)
Karen
hope things work out with your truck okay
ps - Lynn, your rose is doing well - maybe I can get it to you this fall after the leaves drop? I better take a pass on the elderberries, though - thank you anyway. I don't think those are the ones normally used for their medicinal value.
pps - Critter, your maters are getting sturdier and greener in the ground - no flowers yet - but they sure do look promising. We're still not caught up with cleaning up last winter's storm damage and joints and meds are not helping with that, but all your plants are burgeoning nicely in their pots and enjoying regular drinks and admiration. There are some horrible areas that will be perfect for them if I can ever get to them.
Karen
I'm glad those tomatoes are doing their thing for you! I've got flowers just starting on some plants, but it does seem like they're slow this year. I thought it was the weeds that had taken over my veggie garden... thankfully, a couple of energetic neighbor kids took on that task for me (and at a very reasonable rate too), and as of this morning you can see pepper plants and tomato plants again!
Critter, nice to hear that you could find some neighborhood kids to keep order in the garden. Personally, I think it would be wonderful, if instead of sending mis-behavors to detention, that they could be rented out to local gardeners and farmettes. Do you remember reading about how the writer, Allen Lacy (spelling?), upon biting his teacher in the ankle when he was around 9(?), wound up working out his punishment in the following summer by keeping her iris beds weeded? If I remember correctly, he says that that's how he first became interested in gardening - lol!
We are so looking forward to biting into those tomatoes - much more rewarding than some teacher's ankle, I'm sure heehee

Sorry I've been missing for a while, missed the new thread I guess, glad to be back, missed all of you.
tcs, sorry to hear of your friend. Big huggs.
Lea, sorry to hear about the truck, hope you manage to get it fixed. I offered Osteospoum seeds in the piggy trading last year. Glistening White, white with blue eyes. I grew some of them again this year, I'll try to save seeds. I used to have the passion mix but some how 'lost' those seeds.
Meridith, sorry to hear about your kitty. Giving you a big hug.
neil, love the pictures, especially the poppy field!
Kelly, love your pictures too! Did you grow the Linaria Enchantment? I'm soooo in love with it. I'm just starting to get seeds, so will be offering some in the big piggy swap. I'm growing them with a red celosia new look with the bronze foliage, they look nice together.
Critter, the bunnies ate all my pepper plants .... crying here. Next year I will have to grow them in pots.
We took my daughter out to eat tonight. She is going to take a couple classes at an away site (away from the university) for the rest of the summer. She says they make it seem almost like taking classes at summer camp ... we will see... lol. She is driving up there tomorrow.
off to bed, have to work tomorrrow.
feels so good to be talking with you all again. didn't realize how much i missed you!!!!
toofew
Hi toofew! Thanks for the hug, I need it. My kitty is dearly missed.
If there's anything left of your pepper plants, don't pull them, they might regrow. (Put row cover on them until they get bigger.) I had a mouse chomp a whole lot of seedlings one year (I harden then off up on a table now), and I was surprised by how many of they re-grew from a stub!
Hmmm, a row cover ... I'll have to come up with something, but I have my 'vegetable garden' inside my big side garden in a circle ... surrounded by daylilies and annuals, so a regular row cover wouldn't work.
I have left all the pepper stubs in the ground ... was too sad to pull them.
You could also spritz some liquid fence around or try peppermint oil (on cotton balls maybe) to keep the bunnies at bay. I've sprinkled mint clippings around my veggie bed, and that does seem to help!
Critter - lots of good critter info for Toofew on peppers - thank you. To add a couple more 2 cents' worth - Too few, I notice you live in zone 5b, so what would you think about potting up some of your pepper plants so they could be brought indoors later when frost threatens, to give them more time to produce? One gardener grew his in a wheelbarrow and just wheeled his peppers into a tool shed when frosty nights threatened, and then out again in the morning to the sun.
My peppers will stay in pots this summer, but, this summer and fall, I hope to clear and designate an area for next year where I can grow vegies away from our flower garden with the kind of various fencing and other barriers they need to outwit local deer, woodchucks, wabbits, etc. around here.
I love mixing flowers and herbs and vegetables up with each other, but many edibles seem to require so much chicken wire, row cover, etc. that growing them among the flowers defeats my purposes of growing them. Of course, for us cottage gardeners, who could keep nasturtiums and marigolds and sunflowers and...and... out of the vegie patch?
karen
just a quick Hello...
been busy... crappy internet (great new laptop though... )
thanks again for the condolences... it is very hard knowing i'll never see her again... have to admit.. i do talk to her, A Lot....
her DH is "ok" ... i had a nice chat with her daughter when she was up here over the weekend... she is SOOO much like her mom.
Lynn gave me a lot of her 'stuff' ... which made me happy. ok, nuff of that....
Just wanted to comment on the Bach Buttons ... they are taller than 'compact' ... they are the Gubliee Gems.
we've had sooooo much rain up here in June... think about 8+ inches..... even with the sandy soil.. things are still damp.
here's hoping for a rain free week.
Happy 4th weekend to every one...
I'll be "home" hopefully on Tuesday for a few days... will get to check on my 'maters' and those 'veggie cages'.
Terese
Terese, send us some of that rain! After such a wet spring we've gone completely dry! I've actually resorted to watering the lawn a little, which I usually don't have to do until August. Ick.
I grew your Jubilee Gems this year, and they're gorgeous! A little taller than I expected, so I'll adjust accordingly next year, but definitely will grow them again! Should they be pinched do you think? Wondering if I should pinch or stake them... some got tall/lanky enough to flop, while others didn't...
Kelly I had to stake my jubilee gems but thought it was because I have water run over the guter from the garage roof that's the only place I've grown them. They get pretty tall here. Never thought about pinching them might try that next year if I think about it, yeah right lol I'm not much of a pincher and always have weed seeds in that bed germinating always pulling weeds from there!
We got a break in the heat so I'm finally getting some planting done, yes!
Hi all! I've finally begun getting stuff done in the gardens... I was trying real hard not to mulch and just let self sowing annuals take over the bare spots in the beds, but it was a losing battle with the crab grass! I would spend a few hours a day in one section at a time and by the time I'd get back to the first (about a week later or so) it would look like I was trying to grow a crab grass lawn in it! It was not beneficial to my direct sown annuals to have the grass roots being ripped out all around them and hopefully I didn't kill too many by accident. So anyhoo I gave in and now I am slowly getting all the beds re weeded, edged and mulched. I'm trying to put it as thin as I can so that it still covers the ground so at least maybe by next spring it will have broken down enough to allow some annuals to reseed. If not I can always just direct sow some again. My soil is so dry and sandy, it looks so much nicer to have the mulch instead of the bare soil. At least I tried!! : )
