Hi,
A friend is going to Tokyo in two week's time so I was wondering if there is a place there where he could buy some MG seeds for me.
I hope you don't mind my joining the forum. I just planted my first batch of MGs.:o)
Thank you
Anna
where in Japan can I get MGs seeds?
Hi Anna,
The major seed companies have their packets on sale at garden centers and do-it-yourself Home-Depot-Lowes-type stores. If she was going to be there the first week in July there is the mother of all morning glory festivals in Tokyo. Maybe she will be return after that festival?
Joseph
Hi Joseph,
I was thinking of the japanese MGs.
My three varieties of MG were bought from Etsy.
I have Piccotte Mix, Heavenly Blue and Beni Chidori (jmg).
I will ask my friend if she is staying for the MG festival. Will she be able to get seeds during it? Where? she is NO gardener!
LOL!!!
*Anna slaps forehead*
She can speak fluent japanese.:o)
Is it legal to bring seed packets to the US?
Sorry about all these questions.
Check this web site out and then you can decide what you want her to do: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/import_export/plants/plant_imports/smalllots_seed.shtml
Thank you very much Joseph!:o)
If she can use a computer, it is very easy to buy on Yahoo.jp:

Sellers like: sensaku 2000 or beetle 2002bb have what you want in category "buy it now". You make your choice, you know the price - no surprises.
Hi Anna and welcome to the morning glory forum! If your friend does visit the mg festival in Tokyo it's best to get there before 10 am otherwise many of the blooms will have finished. For this reason I will not be going as I would need to travel from here in the rush hour, there is nothing quite like the rush hour in Tokyo!
Jon
Joseph, I was just going to ask you the name of MG in japanese!LOL!
I will check ebay.:o)
pajonica, she is coming back on the 1st of june. What do you call garden center in japanese?
Thank you for the welcome1:o)
Hi Anna, as a garden center is an American concept the Japanese use the same phrase.
Thank you very much pajonica!:o)
Thank you for the link, Dany.
Martin
yes Danny, I forgot to thank you for th elink. Thank you very much!:o)
Anna - Many of the seeds I sent you are Japanese cultivars. Each seed is a different vine cultivar! Enjoy! :-)
I've looked in many garden shops here but the have nothing to rival Becky's selection!
Most Japanese seem to prefer buying transplants rather than growing from seed, the shops have hundreds of transplants selling for about $4 a shot! Most seed packs seem to be mixed varieties, perhaps that's why people prefer transplants. Interesting they always come as 2 vines to a pot and pinched creating 4 leaders.
Jon
Jon - Thank you very much for such a nice compliment! Wait until you see the seeds I'm sending you this year! :-) :-) :-) Get out your artist's paint brush and do some hybridizing! ;-)
I think the only place to get the rare JMG seeds is from the university. Even looking at Japan ebay, they are selling your typical JMG seed packs. I also recommend trying your hand at crossing vines! That's how the Japanese professors get their unusual crosses/cultivars! Create your own!!!! Just my .02 worth!
I will not bother with asking my friend to look for them, then.
Becky, I will try hybridizing some! It is sooo cool!!!
