Hi Marie
What zone is the bamboo hardy to?
Pam

Turner, OR

it should do fine in zone four as I got it from a lady in zone five!

Mesilla Park, NM

Hello, I would love to get some bamboo from you, I can either do postage or send you some cactus, or seeds, I'll check your trade list/wish list maybe I've got something you would like. I'm in zone 7-8 and have lost two bamboo pots full of bamboo, maybe I didn't get them into the ground soon enough. There aren't too many plants I'm crazy about, but I love bamboo. I've got a metal trough that I can sink into the ground as a barrier to maintain it and keep it from going into other places. D-mail me if you would like to trade. Thank you.

I just saw your want list and do have some black bamboo, but it is only two years old and just this year started to get some shoots, I thought it died too.. maybe next year I can split it in half.

I'll see what else I've got, lots of cactus, but don't know if you like cactus, echinopis pups in several colors, pine cone cholla, and some beaver tail opuntia, all would be unrooted cuttings except the echinopsis pups, some have roots. They are the size of golf balls.

It may be too wet in your area for cactus, let me know. I'll check your have list just in case you already have these.

Look at my trade list and see if I have anything you would like. If not I would do postage. LMKP

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

If it is shooting up everywhere I would be incline to believe it is not a clumping type.

Turner, OR

it shoots up in the circle that the bushes are! It is golden godess and clumping for sure

Scottsdale, AZ(Zone 9b)

Hi,
if you still have any left, may I ask for postage?

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Funny Usha I was going to ask the same question :o)

Turner, OR

Sure postage is fine with me!!

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

Would it be fine in zone 10b??? If so I'll gladly send postage for some. It will go great alongside the water feature that I'm planning.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Hi I would love to get some of the bamboo. Please look over my available list as well as the stuff I have on market place to see if anything would work for a trade or I would gladly do postage. Please let me know
Dave

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

How tall are we talking??? 20 to 30 feet??? That will look awesome behind the Banana canna that I got from a friend given that they both grow great. Or behind the Nelumbo seedlings in the corner.

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

Hi Marie,

Fayette, MO(Zone 6a)

I would love some .. Could I send you postage via Pay Pal?

Cherry Valley, IL(Zone 5a)

I received some today. I expected a small clump (that I would just plant), but I received a handful of cuttings. Can anyone help me - what do I do with a bag full of cuttings!?

I really wanted to try and grow these, but don't even know what to do with cuttings - and lljjz isn't a subscriber now...

Pacman sorry to hear of the troubles. do you have any roots? that is the key to most bamboo's. I am speaking from a technical side of generalities on plant types. Hopefully you got at leat a top with a bit of root attached. if so bury that at what seems like normal level for the plant.
Its a shame the few folks do this on dave's. I got burned real bad my first year of trading, but everyone else seems so genuine and truely wanting to help most of the other trades were very generous so it is a balance thing where the mass of the group out weigh's the single crook or scamer.
can you post some pics?

I received three nice clumps two weeks ago via UPS and two of the clumps are already shooting up one shoot each. I am very happy with my trade and sent her lots of echinopsis and other cactus.

Packman, can you show us a pic? Maybe there are nodes on those that will grow.

Maybe she will renew her subscription. Because of her feedback, I did request that she send first, which she did immediately. I take feedback seriously.

Maybe I'm missing something - please let me know if I need better/closer pics...thanks.

Pac man: I don't see any roots but there are lots of nodes to root from. do you have any rooting hormone?
If so I would remove one of the pieces coming off the node and apply rooting hormone there. and then plant it so the stripped off par is in the propagation mix. you might strip a bt more away from the area of the node to give more area to root from. I am not sure as I have never rooted bamboo before but It should work as long as the media is kept moist and high humidity on the cutting.
Please keep me posted as to how it does for you.
Dave

Cherry Valley, IL(Zone 5a)

To be honest, I'm pretty new to all that sort of thing...don't have/never used hormone stuff before...I'm embarrassed to ask, but could you dumb it down a hair more? I'm pretty inexperienced with trying to make something re-root like this...thanks for any extra help!

Mesilla Park, NM

Oh no, those will not root, at least I don't think you can root those. They must have an eye or node on the root rhizhome itself.. You need to ask for some guidance in the Bamboo Forum (I think it is called Grass and Bamboo).. Mine were actual clumps and I specified that they must have nodes coming up or I did not want them.. I've not heard of cuttings root. Post these photos on the Bamboo forum and lets see what they think, there are some pretty good experts on Bamboo there.

Maybe that stuff that they call Lucky Bamboo roots, but that is not real bamboo. Hopefully I am wrong and your's will root.

Oh yes, they will root great! Thats how I got the patch that I have! I though I sent instructions but you never know with me! here is a link that will tell you just how to do it! and man is it easy! http://www.shawngilbert.com/bamboo-propagation

Mesilla Park, NM

Well, I'll be darned....

I'll print the instructions just now and will try it with my black bamboo. Glad to see you back and give the instructions out here. I would never had thought to try this method.

A.

Turner, OR

great and good luck!

Cherry Valley, IL(Zone 5a)

Glad to see your back! - I've never used rooting enzyme before and don't have any. Should I just go ahead and soak/plant them without it or do I really need to try to run out and get some? - if so any suggestions where to get it?

Thanks!

Turner, OR

I didnt use any on mine! I guess it may be quicker but I would just soak them and stick in the ground!

Cherry Valley, IL(Zone 5a)

lljjz - I was going to stick them in a couple pots to start with like the guide you linked said - do you think this would be best or should I go ahead and plant them in the ground?

Cherry Valley, IL(Zone 5a)

Honest - last question - any sun/shade recommendations for this type?

Thanks to all!!!

Turner, OR

I have mine in full sun, but I might put in part shade to start them! The pots sound like a good idea but you might try some in the gound also as thats how mine grew!! If you find you need more please let me know I have plenty!
Marie

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

On most cuttings you want to provide some shade in a high light area. under the edge of a tree that gets no direct sun but is bright will work.
rooting hormone will increase the root production and can be found realatively easily. any garden center, home depot, lowes or wally world. I use a liquid but have to order it on line from

http://cgi.ebay.com/DipN-Grow-2-Oz-Cloneing-Root-Propagation-Dip-N-Dip-N-G-/200480312455?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ead8ecc87

I have bought from them and they are a good seller on ebay. I do a lot of propagation so you might try some rootone .

http://cgi.ebay.com/Rootone-rooting-Hormone-/290436728289?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item439f60c5e1

I hope this helps. who knows you might end up doing lots of stuff from cuttings. I am always available to help when I can and if I don't know I will tell you I don't know. I am sure others who have posted will gladly help also.

Please keep me posted I would like to hear how it goes for you.

I got clippings too. If I had known, I wouldn't have asked for them--we have too many plants to take time to fuss with these. Soaked what appeared to be dead branches [she shipped it overnight, but on a Friday so they didn't come until Monday and were all dried out]. I wrote a review about her generosity with the postage, but it turns out whatever I paid was too much for what I now have. Live and learn, it sounded too good to be true to get bamboo plants for such a low price, and it was. I appreciate her effort, it's my fault for not clarifying before hand.

Miami, FL(Zone 10b)

I was surprised when I saw the cuttings too. In my mind they would be rhizomes but I have them planted in a pot just like the instructions say and I use KLN rooting hormone. All of the leaves dried up though. Am I in trouble or will they spring back. It has rained daily here and when it doesn't I water them with a hose. They are under an avocado tree getting diffused light. I hope they'll root fast.
