We live in South East England.
Was just going to climb into bed, before seeing this charge across the duvet cover!
We don't ever really get spiders in the house, and this one is not like the usual skinny ones we get!
Can anyone help ID it?
(Apologies for quality of the picture. Taken on a phone, under a glass!)
Help ID this spider please
The picture is a little fuzzy but it looks like a long-jawed orb weaver in the genus meta. But the false widow (Steatoda grossa) also has a similar appearance. Maybe someone else can confirm.
This looks more like a Steatoda than a Meta to me. Also, the genus Meta appears restricted to very dark environments (caves, mines, etc.), whereas Steatoda sp. commonly are encountered indoors.
